Mastermind was founded in 1997 by clothing designer Masaaki Honma. The brand’s logo is a skull and cross bones and is iconic to the brand’s logo and print designs. In 2001, Mastermind Japan began to expand to foreign markets; the first expansion was to Paris where the initial foreign trade shows were held.
Mastermind is instantly recognisable by its distinctive skull and crossbones motif. Homma put the Mastermind collections on hold in 2011, coinciding with the 15th anniversary of the brand, but in 2017 he resurrected the Mastermind brand and split it into Mastermind Japan and Mastermind World, servicing the Japanese domestic and worldwide market respectively.
